Bronte sister’s home The official Parsonage Museum
website – Where Charlotte Brontë penned Jane Eyre
The official website of the 2011 film of Jane Eyre
– A marvelous production, faithful to Charlotte Brontë’s
original work, and with the wonderful Mia Wasikowska,
Michael Fassbender, Judi Dench and Jamie Bell, directed by
Cary Fukanaga. Watch this and imagine the parallel life of
The Real Mrs Rochester; Bertha Antoinetta Mason, the heroine
of Jane Eyre’s Rival.
Burghley House - One of the great English Country Houses
and somewhere I visited many times to imagine life in Mr
Rochester’s and Jane Eyre’s world. If you go, make sure you
take tea in the Orangery, explore the Sculpture Garden and
watch their historic deer herd in the parkland.
Stoke Rochford Hall - Now a beautifully restored hotel
and conference centre. This Hall is just like the Thornfield
Hall of my mind. If you get a chance to visit, take it. Its
gorgeous grounds, beautiful library, converted stables and
enormous Orangery are all delightful.
Grimsthorpe Castle - A hidden gem. Beautiful
gardens, original parkland, really interesting servant’s
passageways, a huge kitchen and an enviable collection of
four poster beds in the Castle make this a fantastic day
out.
The Royal Mews, London - One of the best
collections of carriages in the world and an amazing place
to visit if you get the chance. The traditions of the
English Royal household haven’t changed for hundreds of
years.
